    RESOLUTION #2022-01

    WHEREAS the City of Haleyville is currently working on the 2020 Neighborhood Improvements, 7th Avenue South – Mineral Springs Apartments, Streets, Drainage, Water, and Sanitary Sewer, CDBG Project No. LR-CM-CP-20-021, AND

    WHEREAS the Contractor, Robinson & Sons Construction Services, Inc., has requested to be reimbursed for items listed in Change Order No. 2, including 6-inch and 8-inch ductile iron epoxy lined sewer pipe and 6-inch sewer pipe sleeve, additional pipe support, and stainless steel “L” brackets, additional curb and gutter, and concrete drive.  

    WHEREAS these materials, additional work completed and additional work to be completed, and time extension described in Change Order No. 2 amount to $39,702.00 and 38 calendar days.

    WHEREAS the Project Engineer, Calvin Cassady, P.E. of The Cassady Company, Inc., has reviewed and approved Change Order No. 2 for the extension of contract time.

    NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Haleyville, that Mayor Ken Sunseri is hereby authorized to execute Change Order No. 2 (to be made a part of this Resolution) for the 2020 Neighborhood Improvements, 7th Avenue South – Mineral Springs Apartments, Streets, Drainage, Water, and Sanitary Sewer, CDBG Project No. LR-CM-CP-20-021.

  • RESOLUTION #2022-02 Industrial Access Road Improvement

    RESOLUTION #2022-02

    WHEREAS the City of Haleyville proposes to improve the existing industrial access road in Botush Industrial Park that will benefit Bassett Furniture Industries who is making a $5 million capital investment, creating 60 new jobs, and retaining 36 current jobs, and

    WHEREAS the City of Haleyville, Alabama intends to apply for funding of $276,650.00 through the Alabama Industrial Access Road and Bridge Corporation to improve the existing industrial access road in Botush Industrial Park, and

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Haleyville, that the City of Haleyville, Alabama is authorized to submit an application to the Alabama Industrial Access Road and Bridge Corporation for funding of $276,650.00 to improve the industrial access road in Botush Industrial Park.  

    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the application be submitted for and on behalf of the City of Haleyville by its Mayor, Ken Sunseri, who is authorized by this Resolution to sign the application and any related forms or documents on behalf of the City of Haleyville.

  • Mother, Two Children Die in Fire

    The Haleyville Fire Department responded to a house fire at 2915 11th Avenue (Kelly Hill) at 3:31 am on Monday, January 3. The fire was reported to 9-1-1 by Misty Evans Batchelor who lives across the street. She had been awakened by her young son and saw flames coming from her brother’s house.  Misty’s husband went over to the burning house and tried to see anyone through the windows to no avail. An explosion drove him away from the fire as firemen started arriving on the scene. Continue reading

  • First Snow of the Season

    Today starts with a layer of white covering our area.  According to local resources, the roads are drivable this morning, with 195 and 13 having been salted. Remember, bridges and overpasses ice over before anything else, so use extreme caution while driving.

    Students return to Haleyville City Schools on January 10th.

  • Plane Crash

    MARION COUNTY – A plane crash that occurred at approximately 2:24 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, has caused the pilot, sole occupant, to be transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment. A Beech Model D-55 Fixed Wing twin engine plane (stock photo above) crashed in a field near Interstate 22 behind the Love’s Truck Stop at exit 14. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified and is currently responding. Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division in-conjunction with deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office assisted in securing the scene. Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing.

  • Wreaths Across America

    Saturday, December 18, 2021, the Haleyville Chapters of the American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary participated in the National Wreaths Across America Day Memorial Ceremony.  Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, the mission to Remember, Honor and Teach is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 2,500 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.  Mrs. Becky Linam was the Location Coordinator for the local ceremony, which ran smoothly, despite inclement weather.   • City of Haleyville Ordinance to Regulate the Discharge of Firearms

    ORDINANCE #2021-05

    AN ORDINANCE TO REGULATE THE DISCHARGE

    OF FIREARMS IN THE CITY OF HALEYVILLE, ALABAMA

    WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Haleyville, Alabama, has determined that it is wise, expedient, and in the best interests of the citizens of the City to regulate the discharge of firearms and to prohibit the repetitive discharge of firearms in the City; and,

    WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that said regulations will promote the general safety, health, and welfare of its citizens, and that said regulations and prohibition is a justifiable exercise of the police powers of the City; and

    WHEREAS, with this Ordinance, it is the intent of the City Council to allow all citizens the right to protect and enjoy their property; and,

    WHEREAS, a draft of this Ordinance was reviewed and approved by the City of Haleyville Police Department prior to its consideration by the City Council; and,

    WHEREAS, this Ordinance is intended to supplement existing Alabama laws and regulations regarding the discharge of firearms from, upon, or across public roads, see § 9-11-257, Ala. Code 1975, and the act of hunting or discharging a firearm near a dwelling, see Ala. Admin. Code 220-2-.139, which laws and regulations will continue to be enforced by appropriate hunting and law enforcement officials.

    NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HALEYVILLE, ALABAMA, AS FOLLOWS:

    1. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to discharge or cause the discharge of any firearm within the City limits of the City of Haleyville, Alabama, except as provided herein.
    1. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to maintain or operate any form of outdoor shooting range or club, outdoor skeet range or club, or shooting gallery within the City limits of the City of Haleyville, Alabama, except as provided herein, the facility shall be approved by the City of Haleyville Planning Commission.
    1. An indoor shooting range shall be allowed provided that, prior to the operation of the shooting range, the facility shall be approved by the City of Haleyville Planning Commission.
    1. This Ordinance shall not apply to or be construed to prohibit the lawful discharge of firearms in any of the follow circumstances:
      1. the execution of the law or performance of duties by law enforcement officer;
      2. military parade or ceremony conducted under the supervision of an appropriate commissioned or non-commissioned officer;
      3. discharge for protection or in legal defense of person or property as otherwise allowed by law;
      4. hunting or discharge of firearm as otherwise allowed by law;
      5. at functions known as turkey shoots with shotguns only whose dates, times and location are advertised and held by civic, community, or charitable groups in furtherance of their civic, community, or charitable purposes and held no more often than one times per week nor more often than 10 times per year.
      6. Killing of varmints, reptiles, or other vermin in a way that does not endanger persons or property of others
    1. Nothing in this Ordinance shall be construed to allow any action which otherwise would be considered a nuisance pursuant to state law or other City ordinance, or a violation under the City noise ordinance in effect at this time and as it may be amended.
    1. Each violation of this ordinance shall be a separate offense.  Anyone who is found in violation of this ordinance shall be guilty of an ordinance violation and shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) per offense and/or sentenced to thirty (30) days in jail.
    1. Severability Clause:   If any section or provision of this Ordinance shall hereafter be declared invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, such declaration shall not affect the validity of any other section or provision of this Ordinance.
    1. Repeal of Conflicting Ordinances.  Any Ordinance in conflict with this Ordinance shall be and is hereby repealed on the effective date of this Ordinance.
    1. Effective Date.  This Ordinance shall become effective upon approval, passage, and publication as required by law.
