Mother, Two Children Die in Fire

The Haleyville Fire Department responded to a house fire at 2915 11th Avenue (Kelly Hill) at 3:31 am on Monday, January 3. The fire was reported to 9-1-1 by Misty Evans Batchelor who lives across the street. She had been awakened by her young son and saw flames coming from her brother’s house.  Misty’s husband went over to the burning house and tried to see anyone through the windows to no avail. An explosion drove him away from the fire as firemen started arriving on the scene.

The bodies of Cara Evans, 44, her daughter, Annabelle Evans, 8, and her son, Jacob Evans, 4. were recovered from the scene and will be taken to forensics in Huntsville. Her husband was at work in Russellville at the time of the fire. Both children were students at the Haleyville Schools.
