• Haleyville City Council

    The Haleyville City Council met Monday with George Russell absent.

    The council approved the general operation bills and purchase orders for October in the amount of $458,985.38. Four items pertaining to the new sports complex were approved which included a 48-month lease of lawn equipment for $2,198.83/mo with a $1.00 payout. Also, a change order was approved for the equipment building plus the purchase of two 12′ X 24′ pavilions for $5,570.00 and the installation of electrical connections for WIFI service at the complex. WIFI service for the complex will be provided at no charge to the city by Total Solution Guys.

    Austin Lewis was hired as a new police officer effective November 28 at a starting pay of $10.25/hour.

    The next Haleyville City Council meeting will be Monday, December 5, 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.

  • Thanksgiving Week Schedules

    turkeyThe Haleyville City Council meets Monday at 5:30 at City Hall.

    The Haleyville Schools will have two full days this week, Monday and Tuesday. The Schools will be out for Thanksgiving Wednesday, Thursday. and Friday.

    Haleyville City Board of Education will have a work session Tuesday, November 22, at 5:30 p.m. in the Albright Administration Building with the Board Meeting to follow in the HHS Board Room at 7:00 p.m.

    Garbage Pickup Schedule for Haleyville and Marion County customers:

    Thursday, November 24 pickups will be on Wednesday, November 23.

    Friday, November 25 pickups will be on Monday, November 28.

    Garbage should be out by 7 a.m.

    On November 4 an anonymous tip Led Winston County Sheriff Office Investigator Josh Silas and Haleyville Police Officers Johnathan Oliver and Sgt. Mike Glasheen to 502 21st Street in Haleyville. When units arrived there was a chemical odor coming from a shed located on the property. Investigator Silas knocked on the shed door and a male subject opened the door and 4 other subjects were located inside. In plain view was a 2-liter bottle containing an active meth lab. All subjects were detained and Officer Oliver contacted Haz Mat certified officers Sgt. Jason Williams and Officer Rodney Lewis. When Williams and Lewis arrived they properly deactivated the lab and took possession of it. All subjects were placed under arrest and transported to the Winston County Jail without incident.

Work will continue through Friday, November 18, 2016. No parking will be allowed along 22nd Street during this time.     A two vehicle crash occured Monday night at the intersection in front of Walmart on Highway 195. The driver of the Chevy Blazer Jacob Davis, 19, Bear Creek and 3 passengers all went to the Lakeland ER by a privite vehicle. The driver of the Buick Regal, Marvie Walker, 75, Haleyville was transported by ambulance to Lakeland ER. The accident was investigated by Haleyville Police.

  • Driver Shaken But Unhurt

    Sunday evening, November 13, a jeep driven by Brianne Hurley, 17, left Highway 13 north and flipped and landed upside down in a ditch. Brianne was not seriously injured because she had her seatbelt and shoulder harness on. She stated she had had brake problems with her vehicle. Her sister is also a living testimoial that seat belts and shoulder harnesses work from a crash a few months ago.

    First Sergent Ricky Kelly, retired was one of the participants Saturday in the Veterans Parade. The parade followed a luncheon at the American Legion for all veterans and their familes. Rick stays busy with his collection of antique cars in Corinth, MS.

  • Veterans Day

    Several local schools and churches have hosted programs this week to honor our U.S. veterans in advance of Veterans Day Friday, November 11. Birmingham is having it’s famous Veterans Parade on Friday. The Blue Angels are performing Friday and Saturday at Pensacola Beach.

    In Haleyville, the American Legion members and families will have their annual Veterans Day meal on Saturday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Whitehead Post 33 Legion Hall.

    Line up for the Veterans Day parade is at 1:30. Civic organizations, churches, and individuals are encouraged to be in the parade. The line up for vehicles and floats will be at the Haleyville Elementary School parking lot.

    1:45 there will be a wreath-laying ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in front of CVS.

    2 p.m. the Veterans Day Parade will proceed around downtown Haleyville.

  • Slatton Wins

    It wasn’t just a win, but a big win for Scott Slatton who received an overwhelmingly large majority of the votes for District Attorney for Winston and Marion Counties. In Marion County, Slatton had 8,329 vs the incumbent Jack Bostick 3,905. In Winston County, it was Slatton with 8,311 votes vs Bostick 1,702. The totals were Slatton with 16,640 votes and Bostick 5,607.

    It is obvious Winston and Marion voters followed their party selection for president when choosing the District Attorney. Trump won Winston County 9,225 to Clinton 871. In Marion County, it was Trump 10,905 to Clinton 812.
