HBTV.us and Paradise 92.7 recycling event was a huge success. Six huge boxes of computers, TVs and other electronic items were picked up this week and plans are being made to do it again very soon and to expand to a location in Double Springs. The date and locations will be announced on HBTV and Paradise 92.7. Thank you for doing the right thing by bringing your out of date unused computers and TVs and other electronic items to be recycled.

The ARC Thrift Shoppe on Highway 195, across from Dixie Flowers, has recently doubled the size of their store. You can save tons of money on clothes, especially children, toys and many other items. The store’s “profits” go to the Winston-Marion ARC. You may have passed the ARC Thrift Sore a hundred times, while on your way to Walmart to buy the same thing at a much greater cost. Come in and browse and see for yourself. Your pocketbook will be glad you did!

On Saturday, May 4, the Haleyville Band Booster Club hosted the annual Band Banquet at the Ninth Avenue Church of Christ, Fellowship Hall.  Booster Club President, Kevin Thompson, welcomed approximately 250 guests and introduced Representative Tracy Estes (Alabama House District 17) as the speaker for the evening.  After dinner, the group heard a speech about teamwork from Representative Estes.  Estes commented that it takes teamwork to earn what you have going on here at Haleyville.  Following Estes, Thompson recalled how many events the band had performed together and remarked about how they represented the “Home of Champions” every time they stepped onto a field or stage.  He urged band members to “make it yours” and to “leave your mark on this program” and take it to the next level.  Following Thompsons remarks, the program was turned over to Majorette Representative, Mrs. Amy Farris, and Color Guard Representative, Mrs. Kerry Brown spoke to the group about the Auxiliary.  Directors Mr. Reggie Tolbert and Mr. Judd Williams closed out the evening with remarks, handed out an array of awards, and hinted at 2019 on field production for marching season. Haleyville Middle School Director and Assistant Haleyville High School Assistant Director:  Mr. Judd Williams; Haleyville High School Band Director: Mr. Reggie Tolbert Continue reading

The Haleyville City Council met Monday with Councilmen Blue Russell and Royce Benefield absent. The Council approved the purchase of a Kubota Mower for the Street Department for $12,900.

A Resolution was approved which states the objections of the City of Haleyville to an Alabama Senate Bill 264 which would allow the installation of utility poles and wireless facilities within the city-owned right-of-way. Among the objections raised in the Resolution included the need for local governments to manage its own right-of-way and could result in a proliferation of aesthetically objectionable utility poles in Haleyville right-of-way.

The Council approved a Resolution authorizing Mayor Sunseri to enter into a contract with the Cassady Company for engineering services for the Wildlife Fencing at the Haleyville Airport in the amount of $36,085.00. Another Resolution was approved for the Federal Aviation Administration funding of approximately 4,070 linear feet of a 10′ fence to be added to the south, southwest and northwest side of the airport property.

A Resolution was approved for planned street paving for the City which includes 20th Street and 20th Avenue. Park of this paving will include the South Haleyville Church of Christ parking lot which is being done per a previous agreement with the Chuch to use the parking lot for the South Haleyville Scout Hut and storm shelter.

The Council accepted the low bid for glass doors for Park and Rec from North Alabama Glass for $2,675.00.

Mayor Sunseri announced the planned retirement of Haleyville Police Officer Jason Williams.

The next scheduled meeting of the Haleyville City Council will be on Monday, May 20, 5:30 p.m. at the Haleyville City Hall.

The HHS Lions baseball team lost both games Friday night against Brooks. Congratulations to the Lions for making it to the round 3 state playoffs. Football starts in August.

A two-vehicle crash at 11:24 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, has claimed the life of a Dora woman. Christy Lee Taylor, 43, was killed when the 2006 Nissan Titan she was driving collided with a 2002 Ford F-250 driven by Justin David Rivers, 30, of Addison. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene, and Rivers was transported to Huntsville Hospital. A passenger in the Nissan was also transported to a local hospital. The crash occurred on Winston County 41, three miles north of Addison. Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.

A few months ago Paradise 92.7 and hbtv.us sponsored a recycling event for all the old out of date computers, video games or most anything electronic which should not go into a landfill. The boxes are back in the same place as last time, behind the Haleyville City Hall. Please bring your old monitors, keyboards or anything electronic which is taking up space in your home or office and put them in the boxes. The boxes will be there for a limited time so bring your electronic items and dispose of it guilt free. Thanks for helping keep our city clean.

Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville, Alabama plans to open multiple new medical clinics in Winston County. The hospital acquired an existing medical clinic in December 2018 and filed the necessary paperwork to establish two new rural health clinics in January 2019. The clinics will open once the new clinic applications have been processed and approved by state and federal authorities.

One of the clinics will be located in Arley or Addison. Ashley Pool, Chief Operating Officer of Lakeland, stated: “We have been actively looking at potential clinic locations in Arley and Addison and will be opening a clinic in Arley, Addison or both. We had hoped to have it open last year but had to delay due to some litigation that has now been resolved.” The clinic plans to treat patients with a wide array of medical conditions from sore throats and flu to complex chronic medical conditions.

A second clinic will be opened in Haleyville right next to the hospital and will focus on wellness and preventative care. Ashoke “Bappa” Mukherji, the CEO of the company that manages the hospital, explained: “One of the main elements of the hospital turn-around plan was to focus on preventative care. It makes the most sense to place a wellness clinic right next to the hospital where we have a wide array of diagnostic equipment.” The clinic space has been built out and is ready to open as soon as the application has been finalized.

The medical clinic that the hospital acquired in December will be relocated into a larger office in Haleyville. Judy Bittinger, the chairperson of the Health Care Authority of Haleyville and Winston County, Alabama, commented: “One of the most exciting aspects of the clinic expansion plan is that not only are we bringing additional services to the citizens of Winston County, we will create new quality jobs and recruit medical providers into the county.”

Lakeland Community Hospital is a 49-bed acute care hospital located in Haleyville, Alabama. The hospital offers healthcare services to the area including a 24/7 Emergency Room, intensive care unit, inpatient medical detoxification, diagnostic imaging, home health services, and inpatient geriatric behavioral health care.
