• Motocycle Crash Takes Life on Highway 13

    HAMILTON POST – A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, has claimed the life of a Bankston man. Walter D. Watkins Jr., 52, was fatally injured when the 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle he was operating left the roadway and overturned. Watkins Jr. was thrown from the motorcycle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash occurred on Alabama 13 near U.S. 278, less than one mile west of Lynn, in Winston County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.

     

  • Haleyville Man Dies in Crash

    QUAD CITIES POST—A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 7:55 p.m. Thursday, June 6, has claimed the life of a Haleyville man. Don W. League, 77, was fatally injured when the 1990 Ford Ranger that he was driving left the roadway and struck a ditch. After the initial impact, the Ford struck a fence, a culvert and a tree. League was not using a seat belt at the time of crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash occurred on Franklin County 6 near Franklin County 69, approximately six miles northeast of Haleyville, in Franklin County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.

  • Two Die in Crash

    HAMILTON POST — A single-vehicle crash involving a bicyclist that occurred at approximately 1 p.m. Friday, June 7, has claimed two lives. Carl R. Blewett, 54, of Kents Store, Va., was fatally injured when the bicycle he was operating was struck by the 2009 GMC Sierra driven by Carroll R. Parker, 61, of Lynn. The Sierra then left the roadway, struck a tree, and caught fire. Blewett and Parker were both pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash occurred on U.S. 278 near the 10 mile marker, approximately one mile east of Hamilton, in Marion County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.

  • Haleyville Man Dies in Crash Attempting to Elude Police

    HAMILTON POST – A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 1:50 a.m. Friday, May 3, has claimed the life of a Haleyville man. Joshua H. Cosby, 35, was critically injured when the 1999 Toyota Tacoma he was driving left the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned. Cosby was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash. Cosby was transported to Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

    Cosby was attempting to elude a Haleyville Police Officer at the time of the crash. The crash occurred on Marion County 62 near Slaughter Pen Road, approximately one mile north of Haleyville, in Marion County.   • Two Haleyville Men Die in Crash

    HAMILTON POST – A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 7:18 a.m. Saturday, April 20, has claimed two lives. Refugio A. Sosa, 47, of Haleyville, was fatally injured when the 2001 Ford Mustang he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree. Luis E. DeLion Castro, 50, of Haleyville, who was a passenger in the Mustang, was also fatally injured. Sosa and DeLion Castro were both pronounced deceased at the scene.

    The crash occurred on U.S. 278 near Winston County 28, approximately five miles west of Double Springs, in Winston County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.

  • 30 year Old Brilliant Woman Killed

    HAMILTON POST – A single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, has claimed the life of a Brilliant woman. The pedestrian, Tiffany L. Matlock, 30, who was sitting in the roadway, was fatally injured when she was struck by the 1996 Chevrolet C1500 driven by Anthony D. Acker, 53, of Brilliant. Matlock was pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash occurred on Alabama 233 near the 13 mile marker, approximately six miles northeast of Brilliant, in Marion County.
