  • Crash Takes Life

    A two-vehicle crash at 8:40 a.m. Friday, May 5, has claimed the life of a Haleyville woman.  Hannah Dianne Bridgmon, 20, a 2015 graduate of Haleyville High School was killed when the 2015 Dodge she was driving collided with a 1997 Kenworth driven by Jared Nicholas James, 27, of Tuscumbia.  Bridgmon was pronounced dead at the scene, and James was transported to a local hospital. The crash occurred on Alabama 13 at the 279-mile marker, approximately four miles south of Phil Campbell.  Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate. – ALEA- Senior Trooper Johnathan Appling

  • Haleyville City Council

    The Haleyville City Council met Monday with all members present. After approving the minutes of the last meeting on April 17, the Council approved an ordinance to exempt certain “covered items” from the municipal sales and use tax during the “Back-To-School Sales Tax Holiday” as authorized in the Code of Alabama. The “Back-To-School Sales Tax Holiday will be the third full weekend of July beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 21 and ending at twelve midnight on Sunday, July 23.

    Mayor Sunseri announced the hiring of Brian Vickery as a patrolman at $11.55 per hour. Vickery was previously with the Russellville Police Department.

    The next meeting of the Haleyville City Council will be Monday, May 15 at the City Hall.

  • J&L Trucking Shut Down

    The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has ordered a Beatrice, Alabama-based trucking company, Jeffery Finklea, doing business as J & L Trucking, USDOT No. 2479654, to immediately cease all interstate and intrastate operations after a federal investigation found the company to pose an imminent hazard to public safety.  J & L Trucking, which operates two trucks transporting general freight, was served the federal order on April 24, 2017.

    On March 28, 2017, a truck operated by J & L Trucking crossed the centerline on Alabama’s State Highway 13 in Fayette County, colliding head-on with a passenger vehicle and fatally injuring both of its occupants who were from Double Springs.   Read more: Click here
