Winston County Sports Hall of Fame

The Winston County Sports Hall of Fame 22nd Annual Induction Dinner was held Saturday night, July 20 at the HES cafetorium. Pictured above are Tony Giles, MC and guest speaker Tyler Watts. Board members from each of the five schools in Winston County presented plaques and T-shirts to the athletes chosen from their respective schools. The first presentation was made to two students from Addison High School who received the Academic/Athlete Award for 2019, Gage Gilland and Destiny Walker with Board member Aubry Haynes.

Vaughn Hendon, Meek. Vaughn was a member of the 1947 Meek football team. Vaughn, along with several other 11th graders were drafted to serve in World War II. They agreed to come back after the war and finish school at Meek. The 1947 year they returned, Vaughn’s team and the other boys defeated Jasper (Walker County) that year and it was the last year that Meek played Walker County.
