Opposition to “Hospital Tax”

A complaint filed by the attorney for Rusty Banks expresses a problem he has with the “hospital tax” leveled recently by the Winston County Commission on a 2-1 vote, with Bobby Everett, who represents the east side of Winston County voting against it. An additional one-cent sales tax was imposed by the Haleyville City Council at about the same time in order to ensure funding for financing the purchase and operation of Lakeland Hospital. Banks also expressed a concern that Java company which was retained to operated the Lakeland Hosptial is also in the process of purchasing the Russellville Hosptial.
