Haleyville City Council Meeting

The Haleyville City Council met on Tuesday, January 21st with all members present and approved the following measures on the agenda:

General operation bills and purchase orders in the amount of $537,838.14, the 2025 Airport Funding Grant Agreement, construction of a fence at the city shop south of the Neighborhood Facilities building, and a revised quote on a new equipment shed at the shop.

City Engineer Calvin Cassaday said the equipment shelter project was revised to add a rear panel across the rear of the structure.  The shed itself will be constructed as an open pole barn, so adding the panel will help keep the weather off the city’s equipment stored inside.

The fence is to be constructed on the same property and replaces an older one which was improperly located decades ago on an adjacent parcel.  That private land was recently surveyed, and the actual property lines determined.  Mayor Ken Sunseri said the city had offered to purchase the strip of land containing the fence, but the owner declined, necessitating the move.

The City Council also approved a contract with ARTIC Shark, for the company’s use of some property at the Haleyville Airport.  The company has a contract with the federal government to measure climatic conditions over the Bankhead National Forest using drone-mounted instruments and a chaser aircraft.

A public meeting will be held next month to discuss the project and let the public know when the flights will take place. The next scheduled Haleyville City Council Meeting will be Monday, February 3, 5:30 at the Haleyville City Hall.
