Council Gets Organized

The Haleyville City Council met Monday evening for an organizational meeting. After a pledge to the U.S. Flag by members of Cub Scout Pack 97, Judge Mike Newell swore in the mayor and all five councilmen including the newest member George Russell.

The council immediately got down to business by appointing Richard Bittinger as Mayor Pro Tem. Rules of procedure, the appointment of the City Clerk and appointment of their legal council (Lowe, Mobley, Lowe) were all approved along with the appointment of the City Judge, (Jonathan Lowe) and appointment of the City Prosecutor (Scott Hunt).

The council ratified the depository bank, approved the appointment of Mayor Sunseri to the NW Gas Board, and Jonathan Bennet to the Water and Sewer Board. The mayor, Royce Benefield and Debra Hood were appointed to the Planning Board.

The council approved the retention of the Police Chief, fire Chief, Department Heads and city employees. The next city council meeting will be Monday, November 21.
