Crash on Highway 278 Claims Two Lives
A two-vehicle crash Wednesday, June 1, has claimed two lives. Phyllis Callahan Carter, 67, of Athens and Chester D. Brewington, 74, of Arley were killed when the 2012 Chevrolet Impala they were in collided head-on with a 2014 Hyundai Sonata driven by Joseph Poole, 52, of Stockbridge, Ga. Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, and Poole was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. The crash occurred at 12:30 p.m. on U.S. 278 near the41-mile marker, three miles east of Addison. Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.

Haleyville High Graduation
The weather was great as Friday night as 114 Haleyville High School seniors participated in the commencement exercises and graduation on Bubba Scott Field before a large audience of family and friends.

HHS Graduation Tonight at Bubba Scott Field
The Haleyville High School Class of 2016 will graduate tonight at 8 p.m. at Bubba Scott Field. The 114 seniors will soon become HHS alumni. There is a 20% chance of an isolated rain shower. You may want to bring an umbrella.

Crash Injures Two
A single vehicle crash Thursday night at 11 p.m. in Hackleburg left two injured, one seriously. The driver Josef Bates and passenger Brittany Todd were traveling east on Chalk Mine Road and failed to stop at the intersection of Tessney Road, adjacent to the Fairview Congregational Church. The car traveled across Tessney and crashed into an embankment. Both were transported to UAB where Josef was later released. Brittany remains in intensive care with face and head injuries. A witness who was first on the scene and called 9-1-1 stated it was apparent neither were wearing a seat belt. Josef had graduated from Phillips High School earlier in the evening. The accident was investigated by the Hackleburg police.

One Killed in Winston County Crash
A two-vehicle crash Thursday, May 26, has claimed the life of a Decatur woman. Louann Jennings Speegle, 69, was killed when the 2012 Toyota Tacoma she was driving collided with a 2014 Isuzu truck driven by Tyler Jacob Pitzing, 26, of Cullman. Speegle was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where she died at 4:47 p.m. Pitzing was also injured and transported to UAB Hospital. The crash occurred at 12:50 p.m. on Winston County 41, three miles north of Arley. Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
