BOE Accepts Miller Resignation

In their regular monthly meeting Tuesday, the Haleyville Board of Education accepted the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Alan Miller. Dr. Miller who will be leaving at the end of this school year after 5 years as superintendent. Board President Kris Burleson said Dr. Miller has done a great job and the Board will be starting a search for a replacement soon.

Dr. Miller stated “It’s been an absolute pleasure to serve as the superintendent of Haleyville City Schools and I look forward to continuing to work with our wonderful faculty and staff as we finish out this school year, but it’s the right time for me and my family to pursue other opportunities. With two sons soon to begin college, it’s perhaps the right time to look at possibly relocating closer to where they will attend school. Haleyville is a wonderful community, and I’s sure Haleyville City Schools will continue to excel in the future.”

In other business, the Board approved the financial statements and board expenditures for December in the amount of $1,373,991.23. The School Calendar for 2017-2018 and an amendment to the current salary schedule were approved.

The Board also approved the use of two facilities, three field trips, and seven fundraisers. Maternity Leave for Elaine Frix and the hiring of Savannah Smith for the HHS English Language/Arts teacher were approved.

The next scheduled meeting of the Haleyville BOE will be Tuesday, February 28.
