A two-vehicle crash at approximately 10:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, has claimed two lives. Nicolas M. Perez, 22, of Russellville was seriously injured when the 2009 Nissan Sentra he was driving collided head-on with a 2013 Nissan Altima driven by Ashley N. Sims, 22, of Tuscumbia. Perez was transported to Russellville Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Sims was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash, which occurred on Franklin County 48, less than one mile east of Russellville, in Franklin County. A juvenile passenger in the Sentra was also transported to Russellville Hospital for medical treatment. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
