• Dr. Lee to Retire as President of NW-SCC

    Northwest-Shoals Community College (NW-SCC) President Humphrey Lee will retire December 31, 2017, after leading the College for the past 14 years.

     

    President Lee shared his plans for retirement with the faculty and staff of the College Thursday morning (10/26) via email. “I love the NW-SCC family and the commitment each of you shows toward educating our students and improving the quality of life in our community,” stated Lee. “I have devoted almost 43 years of my life to working in education and I think it is time to enjoy the next phase of my life which includes spending more time with my family.” Continue reading

  • Headed to Regionals

    The Phillips High School She Bears Volleyball team is headed to the AHSAA North Super Regional as the Area 13 Winner with Monday night’s victory over runner-up Tharptown in 3 straight sets.  The She Bears season record now stands at 35 – 8, and they will play Sacred Heart Catholic of Anniston at 2:00 pm on Thursday at the Von Braun Center, South Hall.

    Other area teams moving on to the Super Regional are 1A Addison and Meek, 2A Winston County, and 4A Haleyville.

  • Crash Takes One Life

    A single-vehicle crash at 6:30 a.m. October 25, in Walker County, has claimed the life of a Russellville man.  Eugene Phillip Walker, 23, was killed when the 1994 Buick LeSabre he was operating left the roadway and struck a tree.  The crash occurred on Alabama Highway 5, five miles north of Jasper.  Walker was unrestrained.  Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
