Over 400 family, friends and community leaders attended the deployment ceremony for Co. B, 115th Expeditionary Signal Battalion Friday at the Joint Readiness Training Center in Haleyville. The entire battalion deploys Sunday for duty in Afghanistan.
Lieutenant Colonel Todd Grigsby, the Battalion Commander, told his troups, "The time is here. I have no doubt in my mind that you are ready."
"The job you will do will change lives and will save lives," Company Commander (CPT) Jeremiah Hood told the company.
Congressman Robert Aderholt said to the soldiers, "Your elected leaders never underestimate the courage and sacrifice you make to make this nation strong."
The battalion leaves for Joint Base Lewis-McCord in Washington State Sunday, and between three and six weeks later will leave for Afghanistan. The unit will be stationed in a southern province in Afghanistan.
