An accident between a motorcycle and a car Saturday evening claimed the life of Michael John South, 53, of Russellville.
South, on his 2002 Harley-Davidson, was headed southbound on AL13 Saturday around 7:18 PM near McDonald's when he struck a 2009 Ford Escape driven by a 16-year-old female.
Haleyville Police Chief Kyle Reogas said “It appeared she was northbound and turning left into the McDonald's parking lot.” He added that the impact threw South into the northbound lane.
AirEvac landed in the “Upper Parking Lot” and then transported South to a Huntsville hospital. “South later died from him injuries,” Reogas said.
A male family member of the juvenile was in the car with her and was not injured.
No citations were issued and HPD is investigating the accident.
