The City Council took steps Monday night to demolish the old elementary school's lunchroom and first-grade classrooms.

A Public Hearing was held to meet a guideline for a Community Development Block Grant. The $286,218 grant will used to demolish the old school and replace it with a parking lot and accompanying drainage. The Council also approved NACOLG to administer the grant, at no cost to the city.

The Council also approved the hiring of Wesley Marshall and Barry Morrison as seasonal employees at Steets & Sanitation and of Vickie Weaver (warehouse), Branden Capelton, Patrick Gann and Harlon Wood (material handlers) as temporary part-time employees.

Overtime pay for exempt employees was also approved, giving the Mayor authority to approve overtime pay for exempt employees working extra hours in the relief effort.

Fire Chief Phillip Weaver was appointed Director of Emergency Management.

Friends & Family BBQ was approved for alcohol sales.

The Council will meet again on Monday, June 20, 7 PM, City Hall.
