The City Council added two officers to the Police force Monday night at its regular meeting. Randall Lewis and Dustin Witt were both hired at the recommendation of Chief Kyle Reogas.

Several steps were taken to bring the Community Safe Room to reality. With award of a FEMA/AEMA grant to construct the room, the Council moved forward to award contracts to Marcum Architects, LLC to provide architectural services; to The Cassady Company, Inc. to provide engineering services; and to NACOLG to provide administrative services.

The Council also decided to make application to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs for grant assistance under the Recreational Trails Program for the development of a walking trail for city park.

The 2011 Airport Improvement Project, approved for funds from the Federal Aviation Administration, moved forward with the awarding of a contract to The Cassady Company, Inc. for engineering services, to include grant administration services, engineering design services, and engineering inspection services.

The petition to zone annexed property belonging to JRS Realty, LLC to M-1 (light industry) was also approved.

The Council also approved March General Operation Bills in the amount of $376,027.85.

The Council will meet again Monday, May 2, 7 PM, at City Hall.
