The City Council moved to recover from the fire that destroyed Fire Station #2 late last year by awarding two contracts at its meeting Tuesday night.
The Council awarded Contract A to Calenco, LLC, of Sheffield, in the amount of $45,806.00. Calenco will demolish the old hangar (Fire Station #2), replace the north main hangar wall, siding and insulation, and repair the old insulation in the main hanger.
The Council awarded Contract B to Northwest Bama Builders, of Winfield, in the amount of $122,768.50. The contract is for a 50’ x 60’ x 18’ metal building with four drive-thru doors and electrical work. This will be the new Fire Station #2.
All funds for these two contracts will come from insurance claims on the old station.
In other action the Council:
Approved E-Z Mart for the sale of alcoholic beverages;

Approved January General Operation Bills in the amount of $437,100.50;
Approved the zoning of the David & Sue Southern property on Beach Grove Road to R-1 (Single Family);
Approved the zoning of the Nailfast property (Crimson Casual) in the Botush Industrial area of the city to M-1(Light Industry);
Approved the bid from Neely Coble Company, of Decatur, for a 2012 Freightliner M2 35,000 lb. GVW Dump Truck in the of $74,468.00, the 25% down payment will come from Alcohol Tax Revenue;
Hired Jimmy Cason as Part-Time Fire Hydrant Maintenance Tester;
Hired Chris Wilson and Amy Taylor as Part-Time Class II Dispatchers;
Hire James E. “Eddy” Collins as Haleyville Police Department Patrolman, utilizing funds awarded through “COPS Grant”; and,
Approved the advertising for Street & Sanitation Seasonal Employees.
The Council's next meeting is Monday, March 7, 7 PM.
