Special Education Files to be Destroyed

MONTGOMERY -- The Alabama Department of Education has scheduled the destruction of certain special education  records for March 11, 2011. Records to be destroyed pertain to special education complaints filed between Jan. 1, 2004, and Jan. 1, 2006. Records to be destroyed also pertain to special education mediation records maintained between Jan. 1, 1990, and Jan. 1, 2006.

Any parent of a child (or a student aged 19 or older, or a former student aged 19 or older) involved in a special education complaint or a special education mediation, with records maintained at the Alabama Department of Education during the timeframes provided above, may request the pertinent complaint records or mediation records by sending a written authorization to release the records to:

Letters should include current mailing address and telephone number. Unless a written request for complaint records is received, the complaint records will be destroyed on March 11, 2011.
