Lady Lions Win Area Tournament

The HHS Lady Lions won their 5th straight Class 4A Area 13 Volleyball Tournament Tuesday, sweeping Dora in straight sets of 14, 12 and 13. HHS hosted the tournament.

Senior Amy Putman led the Lady Lion hitters with 10 kills in the championship match. Anna Margaret Tank, also a senior, hit 100% from the attack line with 9 kills out of 9 hit attempts.

Freshman Tori Pendley had 5 kills and sophomore Sydney Kiser and freshman Holly Ward each racked up 3 kills apiece. Junior setter Tori Kennedy led the Lady Lions with 23 assists. Freshman Perri Gilbert went 100% from the service line, successfully serving 12 balls, including one ace.

In the tournament's first round, HHS beat the Lady Jackets of Corner High School in straight sets of 9, 0 and 17. The second set shut out came during Holly Ward's 25-ball service; 7 being un-returned. Putman had 15 kills and 5 aces, Ward had 5 kills and 7 aces, Tank and Pendley each had 2 kills, and Madison Frederick had 1 kill. Sophomore Lacey Burleson served 5 aces in the win. Kennedy recorded 18 assists for the Lions.

The HHS Lady Lions travel to Good Hope High School on Saturday, October 16, to meet Pope John Paul II Catholic High School in round one of the Class 4A Region D tournament.
