BOE Hires Former UA Drum Major

The Board of Education voted Tuesday night to hire Reggie Tolbert, a former Drum Major of UA's Million Dollar Band, as Director of Bands. Tolbert brings 18 years of band direction experience to Haleyville.

In other action at its regular meeting Tuesday evening, the Board navigated a long agenda and nine personnel actions, approving the following:

Board Expenditures for April, 2010, in the amount of $1,268,580.13;

Milk bid for the 2010-2011 school year to Barber Milk, Dean Foods, LLC;

Ice cream bid for the 2010-2011 school year to Blue Bell Creameries, L.P.;

Bread bid for the 2010-2011 school year to Piggly Wiggly, Inc. of Haleyville, Alabama;

Field trip request for PYLI students, Neina Middleton, Liz Noble, and Beth Townsend to attend Leadership Development at Bear Creek Educational Center, Hodges, AL, September 20 – 22, 2010;

Field trip request for Cindy Chadwick, Kyle Garrison, Jennifer Kizzire, Kellye Miles, denise Berry, Chere’ Fetter, Alyssa Elliott, Tammy McKinney and Russ O’Rear to attend the Renaissance conference in Orlando, Florida, July 15-18, 2010;

Field trip request for Varsity Volleyball Team, Emily Johnson and Leigh Ann Kiser to attend University of Alabama Team Camp in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, July 24 – 27, 2010;

Field trip request for Junior High Volleyball Team, Emily Johnson and Kristi Ward to attend Wallace State Team Camp in Hanceville, Alabama, July 21-22, 2010;

Student Code of Conduct for Haleyville Elementary School, Haleyville Middle School, Haleyville 9th Grade Academy and Haleyville High School for the 2010-2011 school year; and,

The following fundraisers: HHS Band to sell items that promote school spirit throughout the 2010-2011 school year; HHS Color Guard to have car washes throughout the summer at Sue’s Plunder Parlor parking lot, June 19 – August 14, 2010; HHS SGA to sell 2010-2011 Spirit Shirts, July 10, 2010 – September 15, 2011; HHS Band to sell hams and turkeys, October 1, 2010 – December 31, 2010; HHS Band to sell Little Caesars Pizza Kits, January 18, 2011 – March 3, 2011; HHS Band to sell Community Birthday and Anniversary Calendars, March 1, 2011 – May 20, 2011; HHS Band to sell ads and football programs May 2010 through the end of football season, 2010; and, HHS 9th Grade Freshman Academy to take orders for southern Heritage meat sales, July 20, 2010 – August 10, 2010.

The Board also took the following personnel action in addition to hiring Tolbert:

Voluntary transfer of Julie Brooks from Computer Lab to Kindergarten classroom for the 2010-2011 school year;

Voluntary transfer of Debby Hallman from Kindergarten classroom to 2nd grade classroom for the 2010-2011 school year;

Voluntary transfer Amanda Hood from English 10th grade to English 9th grade for the 2010-2011 school year;

Voluntary transfer Emily Johnson from 11th grade English to 1th and 12th grade English for the 2010-2011 school year;

Voluntary transfer Kristen Pounders from Spanish I/Spanish II to Spanish I/Spanish II/11th English/Alternative English for the 2010-2011 school year;

Voluntary transfer of Kathy Rodgers from 11th History/Contemporary Issues to 10th and 11th History/Contemporary Issues for the 2010-2011 school year;

Voluntary transfer of Greg Taylor from 10th American History to 9th World History and 10th American History for the 2010-2011 school year; and,

Voluntary transfer of Beth Townsend from Democracy/Economics to Democracy/Economics/World History for the 2010-2011 school year.

The next meeting of the Board will be Tuesday, June 27, 7 PM, at HHS.
