The person killed in the collision last week on Highway 195 has been identified as Jessica Garner, 29, of Decatur, formerly of Double Springs. Garner was driving a 95 Buick LeSabre north on Highway 195 just east of Highway 243 when it collided head on with a fully loaded 18 wheeler coal truck. Garner had reportedly been driving erradically prior to the impact. The driver of the truck stated the Buick was on his side of the highway and he had no where to go.
The Buick went up under the truck, both leaving the highway on the north side and into the woods where the Buick burst into flames. Because of the intensity of the fire and impact, Garner could not be readily identified. Her body was sent to the state forensic lab in Huntsville for positive identification.
According to state troopers, the reason for the distraction is still unknown and more tests are pending.
