The commencement exercises of the Haleyville High School Class of 2015 were held Friday, May 22, 2015 at Haleyville High School’s Herman “Bubba” Scott Field. This senior class was made up of 119 students and set a new standard for all who will follow in their footsteps, leaving behind a legacy that is second to none. The most impressive achievement of this class is earning more than $2.1 million in scholarship funds to various colleges and universities across the country. Six of these graduates have also volunteered to serve in various branches of our nation’s armed forces.

In addition to great success in the classroom, the senior class of 2015 led Haleyville High School athletic teams to new heights as well. This year, Haleyville High School won the first football playoff game on the road in school history and advanced to the third round of the state playoffs. The boys’ basketball team advanced to Wallace State for the first time since 2008. The golf team advanced to the state tournament for the first time in four years and finished fourth place in the state for the first time in school history. Many members of this senior class also competed and were successful at the state track meet.  Athletic scholarships were awarded to the University of North Alabama, Blue Mountain College in Mississippi, Faulkner University, and Wallace State Community College.

The Roaring Lion Band received all superior ratings at all competitions this season. There were seven seniors who received performing arts scholarships and seven band members who received All State Band Honors.

Prior to Friday’s HHS graduation, one senior graduated from Northwest Shoals Community College with a degree in welding Thursday evening. Several other seniors have won prestigious art competitions, Automotive Technology Competitions, and Agriscience Competitions at both the state and national levels. Scholarships were awarded to the Air Force Academy, University of North Alabama, Marion Military Academy, Caterpillar, Lawson State Community College, Auburn University, and the University of Alabama, just to name a few.

The following statement is from Dr. Holly Sutherland, Principal of Haleyville High School.

“I cannot express how proud I am of each of you and how much I wish you success in the future. You have the skills and knowledge to help you accomplish all of your goals and dreams! Pair those with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude, and you will be unstoppable. Set your educational or career goals high and your moral and ethical foundation even higher. I wish you all the luck in the world! I love each and every one of you and always remember You Matter!”

Congratulations to the Class of 2015! May all of your dreams come true!
