There was a car fire at the home of Bear Creek Police Chief Shane Whitten Saturday around 3:30 a.m. The 2011 Chevrolet Traverse was parked near the front of the home, and the fire also damaged the siding on the home.  The fire was spotted by someone driving past the residence, and he called 9-1-1 and stopped to wake the Whitten family who was sleeping just inside.  Bear Creek firemen responded quickly and extinguished the fire. Many of the firemen stated the home would have been seriously damaged if the fire had burned any longer before the emergency call was made. The vehicle was completely destroyed, but there was no serious damage to the structure of the home. This fire is under investigation by the Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office.
