The top news story for 2014 from Paradise 92.7 and hbtv.us is the purchase of the Haleyville city hall and fire station property by CVS. CVS made an offer to purchase the property for $850,000 in 2013. After many city council work sessions and meetings, the decision was made to sell the property to CVS for $1,425.000.00. The closing was October 10.

Construction began December 16 on the new city hall which is being built on top of the safe room and parking lot beind McDonald's. The contract to build the new city hall calls for completion within 300 days. Meanwhile, city hall and police department personnel will relocate and operate temporarly in the Neighbor Hood Facilities building on Highway 13 South.

Constuction has begun on the new fire station located on the east side of the Halevyille Shopping Center on Highway 13 North at 6th Avenue. Look for photos and more on this new facility soon.

The new water department building is nearing completion on Alabama Avenue at 21st Street downtown. Ribbon cutting is scheduled for Janary 30th. The Water and Sewer Department will begin operation the following Monday with a first time ever drive through. David Cox, head of the Water and Sewer Department stated the drive through will take only checks or cash for payments in the drive through, due to the length of time it takes to clear a credit or debit card. You can go inside if you want to pay with a card.

Another major story of the year was the deployment of 174 members of the 877th Engineer Battalion Army National Guard to Afghanistan in April.
