The Haleyville Lions captured the first win of the 2014 Alabama High School Athletic Association Playoffs Friday night as they defeated Elkmont 45-21. This was likely the most well-rounded and complete games we have seen from the Lions this year. Here’s a look at the scoring drives of the game. Antonio Reyes provided the only three points of the first quarter on a 26 yard field goal. Next, Will Evans scored on an 82 yard interception return, and Reyes added the extra point to give the Lions the 10-0 lead with 11:01 on the clock in the second quarter. Then, the Lions added 7 more on a 9 yard touchdown pass from QB Conner Kiser to Jonas Dodd and the extra point from Reyes. Elkmont then returned with a Jordan Nelson to Eli Hobbs 15 yard pass for a touchdown, and Alexis Hernandez added the extra points. Haleyville led 17-7 with 4:15 remaining in the half. Haleyville QB Conner Kiser closed out the scoring for the half with a 44 yard run with 3:02 remaining in the half to give the Lions a 24-7 halftime lead. Kiser led the third quarter with the only two scoring drives. First, he had a 21 yard run, and Reyes added the extra. Then, Kiser added another 6 to the lead with a 1 yard run, and Reyes again completed the extra point. The Haleyville Lions led 38-7 at the end of the third quarter. The final quarter of play began with a Jared Bailey to Eli Hobbs 25 yard TD pass, and Hernandez added the point to take the score to 38-14 with 10:37 remaining in play. Kiser then added another 6 for the Lions on a 49 yard run, and Reyes completed his error free night to give the Lions a 45-14 lead over the Devils. The final score of the game came on a 1 yard run from Elkmont’s Michael Tucker. Hernandez added on the extra for the final 45-21 score.
