The Haleyville City Council recently voted to apply for grant money to make repairs and upgrades in Cumeens Subdivision. The subdivision received significant damage during the April 2011 tornadoes, and the City of Haleyville was unable to complete the tasks without assistance. Haleyville received up to $522,000 in grant money to complete the curbing, gutter, drainage, and paving projects, and the initial bid came in at $399,122.00 from Robertson Excavating Inc. in Winfield. Although a few change orders were added to the overall cost of the projects, the total cost was far less than the grant money allowed. The City of Haleyville did not have to supply any match money on this grant, and the work has been completed, with the exception of a few areas of grass that will be completed this week.
