2009 Annual Unemployment Numbers

The U.S. Department of Labor released unemployment numbers for all of 2009 Wednesday. The U.S. jobless rate jumped by 3.5 percentage points from the prior year to 9.3 percent. Alabama, for 2009, experienced an unemployment rate of 10.1 percent, nearly double its 5.2 percent rate from 2008. It was, however, less than 1 per cent higher than the national average.
