The Haleyville Lions faced the Phil Campbell Bobcats for the season opener for basketball season Tuesday night. The Lady Lions started the night with a tough loss to the Lady Bobcats, losing 48-44. The Lady Lions were led by Kaylen Bishop with 8 points, followed closely by Tori Pendley, Ashlyn Jones, and Tia White with 7 points each. The additional points were provided by Taylor Lollar (4 points), AB Lowe (1 point), Kelley Banks (2 points), Natalie Epperson (3 points), Adriana Frost (1 point), and Anna Laine Godsey (4 points). The Lady LIons currently have a 1-4 season.
Next, the Lions faced the Bobcats in Varsity Boys' action. The Lions defeated the Bobcats 63-52. They were led by Dakota Rushing who had 16 points. Also contributing were Hunter Hood (13 points), Deven Knight (3 points), Jordan Brimer (9 points), Jonas Dodd (7 points), Heath Self (5 points), Griffin McCarley (2 points), Conner Kiser (4 points), and Brady Sherrill (4 points). The Lions are currently 2-2 for the season.
The Lions will face the Brooks Lions at Brooks Thursday night for the first game of area play. They will also play at East Lawrence for another area game Friday night.
