UPDATE: The WCSD has released the names and address of the victims. Maxine Carroll,80: Bryan Keith Stephens,50, of 23797 County Road 41,Addison AL.

The Winston County Sheriff's Department is currently investigating two fatalities in the Upshaw Community. The home is located near the 2300 block of Winston County Highway 41, just across from Friendship Baptist Church and near the Winston-Lawrence County Line. The individuals who were killed were an 80 year old female and her 50 year old nephew.

Initial reports indicate that the nephew lived in the home with his aunt and his brother.  However, his brother has been out of town for about a week with his job.  The bodies were found when the Winston County Sheriff's Department went to the home for a welfare check on the individuals.  A caregiver for the female had been unable to contact her and requested the welfare check from the sheriff's department. When deputies arrived at the home, they were able to see the female lying unresponsive on the floor of the home and made forced entry. Once inside, deputies located both individuals who had been killed by gunshots.

Sheriff Rick Harris stated he feels like the incident could have occurred Monday evening, and they have solid leads they are following at this time.  He also said they have two individuals who have been able to provide valuable information for the invesitgation, and officials are currently questioning them for additional information. Check back frequently for information as it becomes available.
