The Haleyville City Council met Monday evening.  Councilman Royce Benefield was absent. The following items were approved.

-Proclamation of August as Firefighter Appreciation Month in association with the Muscular Dystrophy Association

-Minutes from the last council meeting on 7/1/13

-June operational bills in the amount of $368,471.18

-Alcohol sales for Cazadores Mexican Restaurant

-Rezoning of 1705 Alabama Avenue to commercial property

-Letter to ALDOT to request closure of railroad crossing at Alabama Avenue and 17th Street

The mayor had previously hired Billy Cowens to do part time fire maintenance at $10 per hour. Will Sanford also moved from a temporary employee to a regular full-time employee at $10.50 per hour, a 90 day probation period, and a pay adjustment with positive 6 month evaluation to $11 per hour.

Finally, the council closed with concerns from Kevin Swann about his property on 28th Street flooding during heavy rains or fire hydrant maintenance.  The city engineer will look at the property and discuss options for correcting it.  Valeria Taylor also expressed random concerns to the council.
