The Haleyville City Council met Monday evening. Councilman Royce Benefield was absent. The first item on the agenda was the approval of minutes from the last regular session of the council as well as from the public hearing held June 11, 2013. Next, the council approved the general expenditures for the month of May in the amount of $403,316.65. Next, the council approved the transfer of alcohol license for the House of Brews to a new owner.
Then, the city council approved the hire of Stacey Lacey as a part-time Class II Dispatcher for the City of Haleyville. She will be hired at $7.50 per hour and will serve a nine month probationary period. Her pay will increase incrementally to $9.00 per hour over the first three years of service. This hire is contingent upon completion of all pre-employment requirements. The council also approved the hire of a new police officer. Edward Bryant will begin at $11.00 per hour and will increase to $13.66 per hour over the first four years of service.
A citizen in the audience then closed out the meeting with a comment regarding the rezoning of residential property on Alabama Avenue. This issue is set for discussion at the mid-July city council meeting. The citizen stated that she is opposed to rezoning this property for business use. The council heard the statements and agreed to discuss the issue at the planned time. The next scheduled Haleyville City Council meeting is Monday, July 1, 5:30 p.m..
