U.S. District Judge L. Scott Coogler, Alabama Northern District, sentenced three of four men charged with trafficking meth and cocaine in several northwest Alabama counties. Ishmar Gutierrez-Pineda, 34 of 5970 Dime Road, Haleyville; Gary Dale Bartlett, 51, 8515 Helican Road, Arley; Emerito Cabrera, 24, of 514 West Filmore Street Russellville took part in a conspiracy to distribute approximately eight pounds of methamphetamine and cocaine in Winston, Franklin and other counties. All men pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and individual drug distribution and possession charges, alone with Gutierrez-Pineda receiving additional sentencing as an illegal alien in possession of a firearm. All defendants pled guilty to their respective charges in February 2013. A fourth man will be sentenced in July. Gutierrez-Pineda was sentenced to 10 years and 10 months in federal prison, Cabrera, an American citizen, was sentenced to three years in prison for conspiracy and one count of distributing methamphetamine. Bartlett was sentenced to two years in federal prison.
This on-going investigation began in the spring of 2012 with the combined cooperative efforts between, the Winston, Franklin, and Morgan County Sheriff’s Offices, the Russellville Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
