The Haleyville Lady Lions softball team has found a new surge of energy as they near the state playoffs. The Lady Lions struggled after losses in the Gulf Shores Invitational, but they have fought back to remain undefeated in area play and to beat other ranked opponents.
The Lady Lions played in the Bob Jones Invitational Tournament last weekend where they defeated Alabama Christian, who had previously replaced the Lady Lions as the number 1 team in Class 4A softball. The Lions then faced the Winfield Pirates Monday afternoon. The Pirates were ranked number 5 in Class 3A softball, and the Lions fought to defeat the Pirates 2-1. Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Lions faced Priceville in an area game. The Lions defeated Priceville 13-2, with Lacey Burleson serving as the winning pitcher. Other key players for the game were Holly Ward who went 3 of 3 at the plate with a home run and Perri Gilbert with a double. The Lady Lions are currently ranked number 2 in Class 4A softball and have a season record of 24-7.
The Lady Lions were set to face East Lawrence in another area game Thursday afternoon, but it was postponed due to severe weather. The Lady Lions will face East Lawrence Monday at 5:00 p.m. at East Lawrence.
