Haleyville Police responded to a call of a shooting on County Road 106 Sunday around 5:20 p.m. at the Hollis Ray Cox residence. Marion County Sheriff Kevin Williams stated Cox was at his home (scene of the shooting) when the police arrived. According to Williams, Cox stated that Jacob Hutcheson had stolen prescription medications from him. Cox told officers he had confronted Hutcheson about the alledged theft. Hutcheson denied the allegations and fled to his vehicle. Cox followed Hutcheson with a .22 caliber pistol. Cox claims Hutcheson tried to run him over with his car when he saw the firearm. Cox reportedly fired into the vehicle striking Hutcheson in the left shoulder. Hutcheson sped away from the scene, and Cox went inside the home and notified the police department.
An RPS ambulance responded to Hutcheson's vehicle on Cherry Hill Road. Hutcheson was transported to Lakeland Community Hospital and later flown to UAB Hospital for further treatment. He is currently listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. Cox was interviewed by the officers from the Haleyville Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff's Department. He was taken into custody and is currently at the Marion County Jail. Cox is facing charges of Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle, Possession of Marijuana in the 2nd Degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Assault in the 1st Degree.
