A single vehicle accident occurred on 14th Avenue / County Road 30 Tuesday afternoon around 3:30, leaving one dead and one injured. The 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse was traveling south when it left the roadway before striking a tree. The damage to the vehicle indicated the car could have flipped before landing upright in the road. Haleyville police and firemen worked to free the entrapped passenger, Sebastian Juan-Pasqual, 18. He was airlifted from the scene by helicopter, but he later passed away at UAB Hospital. The driver of the vehicle, Seven Edmund Edwards, 16, Haleyville, was transported to Lakeland Community Hospital by ambulance, where he was treated and released. The accident is under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.
