As basketball season draws to a close, post season play is kicking into high gear for several local schools. Many boys' games began Tuesday night, and more will take place Friday evening. The top two teams from each area will advance to the next round of the state playoffs.

The Haleyville Lions are excited to take part in their area tournament Friday evening. The Lions will face East Lawrence at 7:30 p.m. in the Haleyville High School gymnasium. Coach Shane Reid stated that the team is making preparations for the big game, and he is proud of the accomplishments they have already made this year. Coach Reid stated the Lions are in a very competitive area, and they will have to work hard to beat an athletic East Lawrence team. He said the Lions will rely on their defense to make a difference in the game and to help the Lions get the win.

Senior Lee Lann stated, " Winning the first game in the area tournament against East Lawrence would not only keep your hopes up of going to regional, but it puts you in a championship game to move on to a sub regional game at home. That hasn't been done at Haleyville in about five years. It would keep this foundation strong and built up the way it should be and the way Coach Reid wants it to be."

The Haleyville Lions team is made up of five seniors, six juniors, two sophomores, one freshman, and an eighth grader. When asked about what he will tell his teammates before the game Friday, senior Trey Williams stated, "This is what you strive for in basketball your whole life. You get here, you work, and you look up to all the varsity players when you're young. And now you're here, and you have the opportunity of a lifetime. Not everyone gets this opportunity, and us seniors want to go out with a big win." Other seniors for the Lions are Conner Hood, Jacob Brimer, and Trey Dennis.
