Area basketball tournaments are set to get underway Thursday evening. Several area teams are vying for their chance to bring the coveted state championship back to their prospective schools. The top two teams from each area will advance to the next round of playoffs.
Among those teams, the Haleyville Lady Lions will begin area play Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Brooks High School. The Lady Lions are being led by two seniors, Alli O'Rear and Callie Pendley. The team is also comprised of five juniors, three sophomores, and an eighth grader. Coach Al Temple stated that his game plan is to take care of and to guard the ball as much as possible.
When asked about the advice she will give to her team as they prepare for this game, O'Rear stated, "I would just tell them to never give up. I think that is how we have played this year. We are young and inexperienced, but we come in and work hard every day to try and get better. Record wise we haven't done well, but we are still working to improve and are giving it everything we have every day."
The Lady Lions are appreciative of the fans who have supported them this season, and they ask for continued support in post season play. Other local teams that are competing Thursday evening are listed below.
