Hal Guthrie looks over a couple of handbills from the 60's and remembers the beginning of the company which carries his name. Guthrie's of Haleyville opened on July 31, 1965, in an A-frame building located where the Wavaho and Subway Shop building is presently located on Highway 13 South. Prices for chicken fingers have gone up since then, but so has everything else. A box or plate of chicken or shrimp was $.99. This was for a 1/2 fry of golden fried chicken, or 6 jumbo shrimp.  A barrel of chicken (16 pieces) was $3.25. These prices were good for Friday through Sunday. Then came chicken fingers and the rest is history.
