Phil Campbell, Ala. -- On the anniversary of the April 27, 2011 tornadoes in north Alabama, Northwest-Shoals Community College (NW-SCC) Theatre Program will have a benefit production of the spring musical, Mame, April 26 - 28, in the Lou B. Bevill Fine Arts Center on the Phil Campbell campus.

All proceeds of the Friday, April 27, production will benefit tornado victims.

According to NW-SCC Theatre Co-Director, Jeff McAlister, the musical is an opportunity for the college to give the community something to enjoy on the anniversary of such a tragic event. "Our goal is to make something positive out of such a horrible disaster that has affected so many of us," said McAlister.  "Hopefully, we can make a lot of people smile and laugh the last weekend of April and at the same time honor the victims of last year's tornadoes."

With music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, the story of Mame centers on the character of Mame Dennis. Stepping back in time to the roaring 1920s, a 10-year-old orphan boy is delivered to his swinging, eccentric Auntie Mame while she is hosting a cocktail party for her wildly flamboyant friends including her "bosom buddy", Vera Charles. Thus begins 18 years of fantastic adventures as she proves that life can be a banquet and that in order to experience it fully, a new door should be opened every day. The Jerry Herman score includes "If He Walked Into My Life,"  "We Need A Little Christmas"and the title song, "Mame".

The show dates and times are as follows: Thursday, April 26, 7:30 PM, Friday, April 27, 7:30 PM ***All proceeds of this production will benefit tornado victims, and Saturday, April 28, 7:30 PM

Tickets are $8. For ticket availability and reservations, contact the NW-SCC cashier's office at (256) 331-6382. Tickets can be purchased in the college cashier's office on the Phil Campbell campus.  Any remaining tickets (if available) may be purchased at the door.
