The Haleyville Lady Lions played their way into the State Playoffs last week, en route to the 4A Area 11 Championship. After sweeping area opponents in regular season play, the top seeded Lady Lions hosted the area tournament which began last Thursday. The Lady Lions took on #4 seed Fayette County in their opening match and won easily 53-36 to clinch a birth into the State Tournament, however Coach Temple and his girls weren’t finished with business as they wanted to wear the Area 11 crown on Saturday night.
The Lady Lions faced off with the Dora Lady Bulldogs for the area championship and from the start things were tighter than Coach Temple wanted. A poor shooting night combined with turnovers made the game closer than any Lions fan wanted to see. Down the stretch Shayla Clark, Allie O’Rear and Tori Pendley pulled things together for the Lions and they pulled out a victory 37-29. Winning the Area Championship also gives the Lady Lions home court advantage in the sub-regional game coming up Thursday night.
The Lions will host Area 13 runner-up Priceville who fell to 4A #1 Good Hope in their championship game 58-43. The Lady Lions will play host to Priceville on Thursday the 16th, Tip-off will be at 7pm. Coach Al Temple and the team want to invite everyone out and hopes for a large crowd to support the Lady Lions.
