Royce Benefield recently was presented a 20-year service award from the Alabama League of Municipalities. He has served 12 years on the Haleyville School Board and 10 years on the Haleyville City Council.

Wednesday morning at 10:30, a 33-year-old man working on the roof of the Haleyville Walmart had a back problem and could not climb down the vertical ladder used to access the area. The Haleyville Fire Department was called and the ladder truck was used to safely bring him down in a basket. The worker, who was not an employee of Walmart, was transported from the scene by ambulance.

Last Saturday, June 9, an organized search for Jessica Hamby was made by approximately 80 volunteers in Marion County. Reports indicate the search was unsuccessful. Please read the previous story on her disappearance and reward for information as to her whereabouts.

Haleyville Municipal Court currently scheduled for June 21, 2018, has been rescheduled to the following Thursday, June 28, 2018, at 9 am for traffic and non-traffic and 12:00 noon for trials.

Today and tomorrow, Thursday and Friday, are the last two days you can visit the traveling Alabama Bicentennial exhibit downtown Haleyville in the former location of Dixie Flowers on 19th Street. The exhibit allows the visitor to walk through the history of Alabama from the beginning of time to the present with multiple video presentations The exhibit is free and open from 2 to 7 p.m. today and tomorrow. This will be the last chance to see it in Haleyville. The exhibit is sponsored locally by the City of Haleyville and the Haleyville Area Chamber of Commerce. Look for this banner at the entrance to the building for the exhibit.

These numbers are the totals for all 19 boxes in Winston County In the case of the State House and Senate races, the other areas have to be added in. There will be a runoff election in 45 days for the Alabama House District 17 between Estes and Seagraves. Bobby Everett had more than 50% of the votes to win his incumbent seat on the Winston County Commission District 1.

The Haleyville City Council met Monday with Mayor Ken Sunseri and Councilman Blue Russell absent. The meeting was presided over by Mayor Pro Tem Richard Bittinger. Only one main item was covered in the short meeting. The Council approved a change order to the Sports Complex/Playground with the approval of additional fencing around the sewer pumping station, entrance cul-de-sac, and playground. The fencing was changed from a six foot to a four-foot fence which lowered the bid price with a new contract price of $22,080.50.

The next meeting of the Haleyville City Council will be Monday, June 18.
