• Chase Ends in Crash and Apprehension

    Haleyville – A call at approximately 4:30 Thursday morning reporting a theft from Walmart resulted in a long intense chase by Haleyville Police aided by Winston County Deputies. The chase ended on Highway 278 just west of Cullman County. Reportedly, Michael Dylan Tittle, 23, Jasper left Walmart in a stolen truck and was pursued by Haleyville Police SGT Steve Hicks. The vehicle Tittle was driving left the highway and crashed. Tittle ran from the scene and attempted to hide in a wooded area. He was apprehended by Hicks and transported to the Lakeland ER for examination, then taken to the Winston County jail. He is charged with theft of property 4th degree, reckless endangerment and attempting to elude a police officer. Tittle was already being sought for escape 3rd degree.

  • Haleyville Man Arrested in Russellville

    RUSSELLVILLE — A man authorities said was trying to lure two young boys into his car has been arrested.

    Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said Brian Ray Ensor, 40, Haleyville, has been charged with two counts of enticing a child for immoral purposes.

    Reports indicate Ensor drove up to the two boys, ages 9 and 10, who were outside an East Franklin residence playing Sunday afternoon, and tried to use candy to get the boys to get in the car with him.

    Deputies said the boy’s daddy saw what was happening, confronted the man and he drove off.

    0liver said Ensor was arrested after an investigation was conducted and deputies spotted his car.

    He is being held in the Franklin County Jail.

    Statement Regarding Allegations and Rumors Concerning the

    Winston County School System

    Several allegations and rumors are currently circulating regarding some of the schools in the Winston County School System.

    First, I want everyone to know that the safety of our students and employees is my highest priority.

    Second, I want everyone to know that we have thoroughly investigated every incident that has been reported to us, and students that have made inappropriate comments have been dealt with in a manner that ensures school safety.

    To be clear, no Winston County School has been evacuated or closed due to active shooters, bomb threats, or any other acts of violence.

    I thank you for your concern, support, and help in making our school system the best it can be.

  • Lifeguards Wanted

    The Haleyville Park and Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for seasonal lifeguards.   Applicants must be at least 15 years old and be certified as an American Red Cross lifeguard. Applications can be picked up at the City Pool and will be accepted now through March 30, 2018.   For more details call 486-7969.

    The American Legion Whitehead Post and Auxiliary in conjunction with The City of Haleyville are proud to announce the banner program to honor your family and friends, past and present who has served our great nation. The military banner program salutes our brave men and women who gas served or currently serving our country by displaying a 24×48 military banner, in their honor, displayed in our beloved town of Haleyville. The one time cost to create and display the banner is $125.00 which includes a double-sided weathers resistant banner including bracket and hardware.To have your loved one represented, The Haleyville American Legion Auxiliary will have the applications each Saturday from 11:30-12:30 at the American Legion post please bring a photo and service info as you would like displayed on your banner ( years of service, branch, etc.) This will make a unique gift in honor or in memory of your veteran.   • Lakeland Hospital Purchase Date Set

    Mayor Ken Sunseri announced at the Haleyville City Council meeting on Monday that March 31 is the date set for closing on the purchase of Lakeland Hospital by the Haleyville/Winston County Hospital Board. Meanwhile, the city attorney, Jeff Mobley will be finalizing the by-laws for the Board and a contract for the Java Management Grop which will operate the hospital for the Board.

     

    In other business, the council approved the advertising for lifeguards for the city swimming pool and seasonal employees for the street department. Also approved was the purchase of a dump bed for a street department pickup in the amount of $9,995.00 and to pay an invoice to Shoals Electric for $1,500. The City will order 9-1-1 50th Anniversary coins in the amount of $2,100.00.

     

    The next meeting of the Haleyville City Council will be on Monday, March 19.

  • HMS Band Concert Tuesday Evening

    Members of the HMS Band have done extraordinarily well in in competition. The band can use your help and here is how. Donations will also be appreciated.

    The Third Annual HMS Bands Mid-Semester Concert will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 6, at the HMS Gym. The Beginning Band, Intermediate Band, and Eighth Grade Ensemble will be performing a wide variety of marches, ballads, classical and contemporary pieces for our community. This is a fundraising event for our program, as we are in great need of percussion equipment. Admission is $2 per adult, while all preschoolers and students are admitted free.

  • Chase Ends in Crash and Arrest

    A vehicle chase started at approximately 12:30 p.m. today on County Highway 114 in Marion County. Bear Creek Police Officer Jonathan Oliver on his way to assist a Marion County Deputy on a different call, witnessed a Dodge pickup weaving in the road, then doing donuts in a field. He stopped the vehicle and as he approached the vehicle on foot, it sped away. Oliver gave chase and called for assistance from other law enforcement officers.

     

    The chase went through much of western Marion County ending in a crash on County Highway 6 between Bear Creek and Hackleburg. The 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup left the road and crashed into a pine tree. The driver, Cody Noble, 25, a native of Bear Creek was arrested at the scene. The charges against him include possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, attempt to elude, criminal mischief 3rd, and reckless endangerment. A female passenger suffered a bloody nose but otherwise appeared to be in good condition. Charges against Noble will be in an updated story.

     

    Other agencies assisting included the Haleyville and Hacleburg Police Departments and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The crash was investigated by an Alabama State Trooper.
