• Miss 9-1-1 Beauty Pageant Feb 3

    The Haleyville Rotary Club is hosting the first-ever Miss 9-1-1 preliminary pageant to the Miss Alabama-Miss America pageant system. The pageant will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Haleyville Elementary School cafetorium. The pageant will begin at 3 p.m. and tickets are $10.

    The event is being held in celebration of this year being the 50th anniversary of the first 9-1-1 call made in the nation in Haleyville. “This is an opportunity to promote that Haleyville is the birthplace of 9-1-1, an emergency system that is utilized nationwide,” pointed out pageant director Melica Allen.   • Lakeland Hospital Operations Extended to March 31

    Over the last several weeks many elected officials and Java Medical Group leadership have been working on a transition plan for Lakeland Community Hospital. A major component of the transition is the formation of a hospital authority which will be used to acquire and operate the hospital in order for healthcare services to continue locally. the Haleyville Winston County Hospital Authority is being formed and hospital operations have now been extended through March 31, 2018. this extra time will allow the completion of ownership to be transferred to the Authority, pending necessary approvals.

    This development is a favorable step towards keeping the hospital open and operational for Haleyville and the surrounding area.
