August 19, 1950, 120 members of the 107th Transportation Truck Company were called to active duty departed Haleyville for an 18 month tour of service in Korea. With a stop at Ft. Bliss, an Army Base at El Paso, TX, the men were joined by Army Reservists from other parts of the country to bring the unit up to 180.
In Korea, there mission was to deliver supplies, food, clothing, and ammunition as needed.
All the Haleyville members returned home except Billy Frank Roberts, who died in an airplane crash on his return trip.
Saturday, September 10, many of the remaining members of that historic group gathered at the American Legion. Jimmy Steffy, one of the reservists who joined the group in Texas, traveled from his home in Virginia to Haleyville to be with his activated Army buddies.
