The Marion-Winston Counties Community Action Agency will be distributing food as part of the state's food assistance program. Qualified households will be able to pick up groceries. The agency will not be taking applications at these distribution sites. Applications for assistance can be made at the agency's offices in Hamilton (921-4224), Haleyville (486-7239), or Double Springs (489-5448).
The locations and dates are as follows:
The agency has been serving Marion County since 1965 and Winston County since 1971. The agency is a non-profit organization established to help low-income households reach or maintain household self-sufficiency. There are twenty-two community action agencies that serve the sixty-seven counties in Alabama. The agency directly operates two primary programs: federal assistance program for heating and cooling utilities, and the state food assistance program.
Jeff Fleming, Executive Director of the agency, said, “When funds are available, the agency also helps with rent and mortgage assistance, but these are very limited.” The agency also has funds available through September to assist individuals completing their education with childcare expenses.
Marion-Winston Counties Community Action also works to promote and support the Head Start and Weatherization Programs served by its sister agency, Community Action Partnership of North Alabama. The agency also works with local churches, civic organizations, and other local, state or federal entities that offer assistance to low income households. For information about any of these programs you can contact the Hamilton Office at 205-921-4224.
