This fire truck possesses some of the features that interest the city: large capacity with a droppable, portable water tank |
Fire Chief Phillip Weaver said, "This gives us the opportunity to retire old equipment." He added that the department will save money by replacing two trucks with one, thus saving operating expenses such as insurance costs. Weaver said that the department is looking at a "Portable Tank Carrier." This truck can deliver 3,000 gallons to a scene, drop a portable tank, fill it, and return to re-fill. In effect, this one truck can do the work of two.
Haleyville Mayor Ken Sunseri said, "This enhances the capability of the fire department." This grant is a 95/5. That means the city's share will be 5%. If the city uses all $200,000 of the grant, its share would be $10,000 while FEMA would pick up the remaining $190,000.
The two tankers the new truck will replace must be retired under the conditions of the grant.
