Weaver completed the "Incident Command System for Expanding Incidents" course in January. He already completed "Introduction to ICS" and "ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents." The training included the classroom as well as a mock disaster that simulated a train derailment with hazardous materials. Weaver is scheduled to take "Advanced ICS, Command General Staff-Complex Incidents" in March. Later this year, he will attend a 7-day course to receive his certification as a trainer in ICS.
Weaver said, "It's good training learning to interact with the National Incident Management System." Weaver's training is a grant requirement.
CDP provides training in ten areas, including Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Service, Fire Service, Hazardous Materials, Public Health, Public Safety Communications, and others. The CDP's Noble Training Facility is the nation's only hospital dedicated to training hospital and healthcare professionals in disaster preparedness and response. The CDP's Chemical, Ordnance, Biological and Radiological Training Facility is the only facility training civilians in a true toxic environment using chemical agents; it occupies Fort McClellan.
FEMA funds the training program. 500,000 of the nation's first responders have been trained since the center began operations in June, 1998.
