(AP) — MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Alabama House has taken another step to make it harder for methamphetamine producers to get the ingredients they need by buying common cold medicines, like Sudafed.
Alabama has a law that requires cold medicines containing ephedrine and pseudoephedrine to be stored behind the counter and limits customers from buying more than 6 grams in a 30-day period.
The House on Tuesday voted 92-0 for a bill that requires stores to record the information on sales on a statewide database to prevent a person from going from store to store to stockpile the drugs.
The bill was sponsored by Frank McDaniel (D-Albertville). McDaniel sponsored the original bill controlling sales of the cold medications. The bill now goes to the Senate.
